Aba Zone of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) last night (Dec. 1) honoured the Rt. Hon. Dr.Cosmos Ndukwe, Deputy Speaker of Abia House of Assembly as MEDICAL AMBASSADOR. The doctors appreciate ManofGod for the uncommon gesture of building and equipping a health center in a rural area of Abia State. They are particularly pleased that he also elected to engage the services of medical professionals with mouth watery incentives to man the facility. NMA recalled too that the Deputy Speaker's medical outreach programmes, again in rural areas; target indigent women and children; a strategy they consider novel in the business of saving lives.

The Deputy Speaker, represented by Hon. Mezie Nwaubani (Mezie Ukwa), Majority Whip Abia House of Assembly, told the doctors:

  1. Your decision to continue plying your trade in Aba is demonstration of implicit confidence in the city of greatness, odds notwithstanding. You are the reason Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu Ph.D is in a hurry to fast track the development of Aba

  2. Treat victims of gunshot. There is no law that prohibits you from so doing. Save life first and perhaps promptly notify Security agents. You have support of the Assembly and indeed the law.

  3. Find time to participate in politics. A doctor legislator for instance would help give direction to legislations regarding provision of quality Medicare.

Cosmos stood shoulder high with other distinguished awardees:

  1. Model of humanity and champion of medical tourism, wife of the Governor MRS Nkechi Ikpeazu

  2. The super educationist, former Commissioner for Health and also Education in the old Imo State, Lady Bridget Nwankwo

  3. Medical legend, the Medical Director of NEW ERA HOSPITAL Dr. Okolo

  4. First class philanthropist and Aba based industrialist Ide John C. Udeagbala

  5. Multi talented Doctor and the Director of WIMPOLE CLINIC Dr. Emeruem.

The event which happened at Maduakor Hall of Terminus Hotel was star studded and an eloquent testimony that doctors will continue to be veritable instruments of humanitarian services.
