At least 16 people died in a lightning in a church in Rwandan, East African countries. More than 150 people were injured. Of them, 140 were admitted to different hospitals.
A BBC report on Sunday said that the severe thunderstorm occurred in Rwandar's southern mountainous district Nairuguru.
Nayarguur Mayor Habitekko Franosawa told AFP that 14 people died on the spot in lightning. The other two died after being taken to the hospital. Of the injured, 140 people have been admitted to different hospitals and health centers. The condition of three of them is critical.
The mayor further said that on Friday, a student died in lightning in the area. There were 18 students together - there was a thunderbolt incident. Three of them had to be hospitalized.
Local media say that the church does not have the necessary equipment (devices) to prevent thunderstorm. That is why this deadly accident happened. Almost all the localities in the locality are in the same situation.
