Looking at the trend in most African nations and Nigeria in particular because this is the terain I understand the most. I cannot but notice how religion and religious views have been used to manipulate people.
Religion is expected to be a standard when it comes to morals and ethics, but it is now used as a cover for deceit and other sort of Ungodly activities. Politicaians use religion as a cover to gain political power, religious leaders use religious citations to brain wash their followers, etc.
For the benefit of this writing, we shall look at it from a political perspective. Due to the high importance attached to religion in this part of the world, political leaders now capitalize on it as a means of deceiving the electorate.
I happened to come across a campaign poster today and coincidentally the person contesting was an acquaintance of mine. I don't intend to judge this person but from every standing he wasn't qualified to run for any political office, at least not yet. What particularly caught my attention was an inscription written boldly on the poster. The word were
I will deliver Insha Allah
Seeing this made me wonder. Why would someone use religious words to cover his incompetence.

These people know that anything done under the disguise of religion has greater possibility of general acceptance. Thus, religion has become a means to an end.
Religion is now used to brainwash electorates on their electoral rights and even more appalling is the fact that certain individuals still vote on the basis of religion rather than capabilities.
I hope this error is covered in the nearest future hence the future of our nation be in jeopardy.
