Today, we'll talk about planning and organizing. As we have learnt in the last article that a successful agribusiness is that one that is well managed. Planning and organizing are functions of management and that's what well be talking about now.

PLANNING

Planning is the process by which a manager looks into the future and discover alternative source of action. It describes the adoption of specific programmes in order to achieve desire result. More so, it involves work scheduling, processing and setting up procedures, goals or standards, preparing agenda or programs.

Planning is not a forecast but action to be taken before achieving your purpose or result.

Importance of planning

Why is planning important in agribusiness?
• Agribussines is a more complex activity
• Planning is essential for business survival and development
• It reduces risk and safeguard against uncertainty
• It helps to achieve objectives and goals of business, thereby moving business in right direction
• It improves operational efficiency of business
• It is the most bases of all management functions. I.e. all other depend on planning

Steps in planning an agribusiness

Planning can be said to be a process because there are step-by-step approach to planning. These steps include;

√ gathering facts and information about the business enterprise

√ analyzing what the situation is and problem that could emanate in the business operation
forecasting the future development.

√ setting goals for achieving the objectives

√ preparation of various alternatives plans within the existing levels of available resources

√ developing a means of evaluating progress and making adjustment when necessary

ORGANIZING

organizing in any business activity involves the person who guide and control the function of the business, he also coordinates and regulates all the factors involve in the business operations.
Organizing involves monitoring and taking responsibility of all possible outcomes. Organizer is otherwise known as entrepreneur

Purpose of organisation

• To identify and group desired activity
• Assigning these activities to position
• Dedication of authority to different persons

Functions of organiser

• To determine the job to be done
• To define the line of activity by the staff
• To establish mutual relationship among the staffs
• To select and train personel in the agribusiness operation.
