Bright Side Of The Sun
Diving deeper into the mind blowing AI realm.
It's nuts, but in a nice way
"Sure, AI can write music, only like in lyrics and stuff right?" That's what I thought, at least. And the lyrics would just seem a little odd, to state the least. Clearly artificial, just for fun, like that fractal music creation software. Using MIDI it did sound a kind of cool. Even a song created with that tool lasting 11 minutes straight could be listened to by a Geek like me. You would not find it in some Charts though. And I'd be asked to turn the volume down or at least put my headphones on. Not that my dear ones thought that Jazzy sounding musical chaos was bad, but to each their own.
While I would get over the top enthousiastic, trying to explain how magnificent this actually was. But I guess it was just my thing, until last week, that is. That's when I decided to have a go at AI created music. Still expecting it to be some fractal mathematics based thing. But now evolved by the power of two, or something like that. And I've been using the image creating Applications for quite a while. Especially for some NFT {Non Fungible Token} thing running on another blockchain. And I have been mind blown many times. It's getting more crazy by the day. Have you seen those AI created videos?
Music was my first love
And it'll be my last. Music from the future and music from the past... Well, I guess you may be familiar with those lyrics. Somehow it fits the subject of this article. Would (the late) John Miles have digged AI creating its own kind of music? Maybe to be used as a creative tool, like I know some painting artists use it. To inspire, to light the inner spark into a burst of expressive fire. It is your own description (put in as a prompt) of a certain idea that's living inside of your own imagination. And I do also use it to learn and to extend my own knowledge. Concerning web site development for instance.
With Copyrights in mind there's somewhat of a grey area. Yet, currently, with some of the AI Music Creation tools the rights remain with The Prompter (is that a profession already?) And you can even use the results Commercially, with the exception in a Web App like https://suno.com that you need a payed subscription. The Suno free tier alows you to share the songs though. Another great one is Udio (https://udio.com) which does also allow you to use the results commercially. Even with its basic free tier setup. Where you have a certain amount of credits per month and some other restrictions. And I used both in the last week. Both have their quirks, challenges and their advantages.
Just for fun
That's actually what I was going for, just for enjoyment. And as some of my best friends are totally into vinyl music material, and bands like Pink Floyd, I found an inspiration. That's how I got to the "Bright Side Of The Sun" title. In case you're unfamiliar with Pink Floyd, they once made an album known as "Dark Side Of The Moon", quite famous, especially amongst the vinyl record music lovers. And my Mates and I tend to kind of having a different opinion about that specific band and their music, while enjoying our (almost) weekly beer taste evening. Still though, Pink Floyd inspired me for what I named the 'Chasing Celestial Dreams' project. And I actually was mind blown by the results...
If you're into music and you'd like some inspirational tool or have your own preferred music style created for you, then Udio and or Suno might just be your thing. Imagine you did write some poems or lyrics and you have a certain idea how it could sound as a song. You are in a band and you want some idea concepts to be worked out and then go from there. Maybe you're a documentary maker that needs some background instrumental music. There are a lot of creative areas where AI can be used as a tool. But some will want to use a shovel to dig a Canal. And yes, as a Grympy Man, I would state that not everything was better back in them days, but a lot was. To each their own.
Power Rock Metal
Still typing this publication on my mobile phone takes forever. And maybe I could have used AI for that, but I'd still do like to experience some sort of freedom of expression. During the last week I have experimented a lot with the Music Creating AI. And a lot of results really blew my mind. Where the fractal music from a few years ago was merely appealing to a Geek like mind. The current results actually seemed to please the non technical freaks. Although the song I share with you might not be everybody their cup of tea. The music style I prompted as Power Rock Metal and I gave 'the band' the name of Iron Gate.
As I grew up with British Metal bands like Saxon, Judas Priest and Iron Maiden, that just popped into my mind. Where I took that concept into the here and now, resulting in a wall of sound. With a lot of variation from the start to the end. Bombastic, I'd even state at some point, like that one Swedish band having their Final Countdown. Of whom I seem to have forgotten the name of. It may pop up later, but I want to finish this publication as I want to do some real artistic painting. No [CTRL]+[Z], but a practice in ZEN, to balance things out.
There are some songs that I keep where they are right now. And I do edit them, using Audacity, by the way. For that finishing touch. While I also like to add some album artwork to them. Prompting my way through the day. Also using some graphical tools to make things fit more the way I like it. Anyway, the song I stored on the Arweave blockchain is quite on the heavy side. It might not be to your liking as it is pretty loud and speedy. Just there for your and my entertainment, enjoy!
Have a great one!
