Argh, the machine. Just when you've built a client base for your Copywriting services, in swoops AI to meddle in the field.
I'm a victim. ChatGPT became a sworn enemy that stole more than half my earnings overnight. My hopes—well, they were dashed. But when the enemy attacks, it's fight or flight, and I decided to soldier on. You know what they say about keeping your enemies close—it works!
The trick is to just keep swimming - and to get to know the force that (almost) drove you to destruction, which, in my case, is AI.
I took a few quick courses on using AI for writing, studied how my target audiences are using it, and then offered it as a service. I reduced my rates but used ChatGPT to speed up my deliverables. However, I refuse to say I SOLD OUT!
I promote myself as an empathic writer—a human who writes with soul, captivating the emotions of people who are looking for content to relate to. Holding true to my values, I've managed to pull past AI-favouring clients over to the light side. For them, I write authentic content untouched by the machine. I've also seen a movement of companies seeking out content generated by computers. Phew!
In my mind, I beat AI, maintaining my creativity and humanised approach to writing. And you can, too.
I still think AI is here to do us favours, but also bite us in the butt. My perspective: balance is key. We can't ignore technology and it's advancements, that's way too much of a dangerous game to play. However, it doesn't mean that raw writing, an art that's been around for centuries, won't be the winning team.
If you are a Copywriter feeling the pressure of guns-blazing AI, pull up your BIG boy/girl pants and clean the field. Here's how:
Find your motivation
I get it. AI has left you weary and sullen. This just means you need to brighten your mood and work harder. Hard work is a privilege's, one that pays off. Continue to fish for clients seeking your own talented work, you'll still get bites and, trust me, they're the catch of the day!
Make AI your friend
As I did, take a few courses in WHY AI is sought-after. Studying the topic might just lead you to an angle, one that changes your game a bit. Who knows, this may be for the greater good! Incorporating AI into your businesses does not mean you're selling out - it just means you're broadening your horizons.

TRUE content CHatGPT really is an amazing tool, one that takes care of business. But! Don't let it drown your creativity. Your talent can get lost in ones and zeros. Even if it means writing for yourself, don't lose the ability to write with EMPATHY. We don't know where the machine will take us, the pencil will always be there.
Promote yourself as an authentic writer
I've seen the ads looking for writers who DO NOT use AI, and they're increasing. Why? Because many businesses still don't trust the outcome, making authentic, original writing a safer bet. Plus, AI, as clever as it is, still needs to get some of its fact straight :)
