On the Topic of this Week...

We understand that the hospital setting needs all the professionals to make it a success every day as each person has their important parts to play but then, these days we see a trend where by people boycott seeing a doctor for their complains and go straight to a pharmacy to lay their health issues.

This has become like a norm to some people due to always going over the counter to get drugs and then pharmacist treating/prescribing drugs.

Is this right? Should the pharmacist not refer such people to see their doctors and then come back for their drugs?

We like you all to say or drop your thoughts, advise, memoirs and opinion about this topic.

Every comment gets a good Upvote.

We expect your candid opinions on this topic!

I had a friend in the Past that taught Pharmacy Students and she was more knowledgeable than many of the Doctors that prescribed medicine to their patients. If I ever needed medical advice I would have much rather of asked her than spent time in a Doctors office and then payed a High Fee for his medical expertise. Lots of people don't have good medical insurance and they certainly cannot afford office visits to get marginal assistance..........I hope Crypto's can do a lot about changing the way we go about healthcare.................@air-clinic

Neither pharmacist/chemist should admit patient based on ethical gounds nor is he entitled to admit . Ideally pharmacists should refer such patients to consult doctor but they don't do so bcoz it is egodystonic for them and second thing is that by just having auperficial knowledge of few OTC drugs they consider themselves as doctors ignoring the fact tbat little knowledge is a dangerous thing . Problem with pharmacists is that they actualy do not kmow how deep the medical science is and by just being able to provide symptomatic treatment to some common illness, they think that they know everything and they are at par with doctors which is actually their delusion.

I support your opinion, chemists and pharmacists should stick to their lanes. But again, it is true that some are very knowledgeable and can help explain issues to patients.

Thank you but the question is not about explaining the issue but is about admitting the patient's and treating them which they cannot.

Thank you so much @drqbm for always speaking and coming through for us.

This issue is one of a delicate nature and should be handled with all professional approach disregarding sentiments of business and profit making. In every field there are rules , principles and order that must be maintained and followed if the best results are to be achieved. I have been around the medical settin long enough to realise that not all symptoms that meet the eyes have a specific diagnosis. If fact , one particular symptom can present in upto 10 various disease conditions and same symptom will be treated differently depending on its peculiarity.

We are taught that to make an accurate diagnosis,
You take a good history, do a proper physical examination, run necessary laboratory tests and do proper imaging investigations to arrive at a diagnosis!

Only then wil to you will able to confidently administer drugs for any particular ailment and a prescription does the trick for the pharmacist .
In essence, i think pharmacist so discourage drug abuse in this sense because only doctors are trained in the art of making diagnosis. Am sure this Will reduces the incidence of sudden deaths that result from inappropriate and untimely management of certain medical emergencies

@hokulor thank you so much for your well thought and communicated opinion. We appreciate your comment.

It would be a mistake to believe that pharmacist or chemist could prescribe drugs restricted to medical prescription. Prescription is one of the functions of the physician among others, the formations and references are also different as exemple, the area of psychiatry, is totally different from cardiology, which is different from neurology. If the pharmacist can do this functions will soon be able to operate, or anesthetize. They are knowledges that have different functions, and we hope that the pharmacists are a professional in the multiprofessional context with its functions within the context that it encompasses dealing with the molecules. The use of pharmacology serves a larger context in the clinical context of the diagnostic nosologies. MD treats humans, don't drugs. It is a mistake to believe that medicine is risk-free, from the Greek Pharmakon, the drug could also mean poison. medications should be used clinically guided to specific functions in the contexts of organic dysfunction. I am a doctor and I invest here in Steem and in the Brazilian community. I really liked the projects, I hope I can help.

Wow, thank you so much sir @matheusggr we are delighted to have you comment on this topic. Also, we like for you to download our app here https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=air.clinic.android

Why should a pharmacist or chemist admit or treat a patient if a doctor is available!! This is not their job. But as they are related with heath profession, the should know about some emergency aid like BLS . Other time, they should concentrate on what they are trained for.
