One does somethings at times, which are slightly "IL-legal" to get a few cash. This occasion saw me and a friend doing one act seriously frowned at in the medical world -"blood outing!"
we had posed as patients relatives' to donate blood to them. These pints of blood would be collected and taken to the blood bank in place of ones the patients had got, if not, the patients won't be discharged.
They'd carried the necessary tests on us to check the compatibility of our blood samples before the main pint was to be collected. So we waited patiently planning how the peanut we'd get would be spent.
Just then it happened. Not that i expected the hospital air to be peaceful, but the nauseating smell of antibiotics mixed with stench of rots from nearby wards were alone. The air suddenly became tense. White labcoats rushed to and fro, then someone got wheeled into the INTENSIVE CARE UNIT. it was an emergency case!
It was a ridiculous case at that, not only to me but to those who heard the loud gossip which the nurses eventually came to share with their friend who coincidentally sat beside us.
"you won't believe what happened..."
the nurse began as our ears tuned to listen. if we had stayed aloof , we would have heard all the same.
"people are funny, what else does he want? He's just 24 oh and he's even married. Why he come do that kain thing?
it happened that the 24 -year old guy, well to do, was rushed into the hospital on his second attempt to kill himself. on the first attempt, he'd drunk a mixture of bleach and detergent, but he'd been saved so he moved on to the next plan. He set himself ablaze!

At the time we left, he was in excruciating pain, for he had second degree burns and drip was administered through his penis.
The truth is, it takes the fittest to survive lately. So antisuicide initiatives should be done abundantly.

Suicide is something that seems to be increasing, I would have to look into stats to say it definitively but I do wonder why the upward trend.
Is it hand in hand with the western movement towards material objects, the 'throw away' and instant gratification society? The inability to connect with people face to face? Or is it purely chemical imbalances caused by what we physically consume?
I hope that poor young man can find his peace, can't imagine what his family is going through right now.
I think it has to do with all that and more, especially the ego that comes with seeming failure
Thanks for the infor...
