Meet The Real People’s Parliament

Last year, while I driving down to the park for a meeting, I saw a familiar site especially for those in Lagos. I'm talking about the real Nigerian people's parliament. Although I don't really like listening to political and economic analysts on most local channels as they discuss national issues, I often get amused by the intensity and dedication these group of analysts invest in discussing the problems of our nation.

A close look at what I have call "The People's Parliament" will reveal that they have different contributors and most times, the intensity and fierceness of the arguments is usually determined by key panelists who are more enlightened than most of the members of this great analysts. I call such people the “professors,” well, you may be wondering why I call them professors. The answer isn't far-fetched because they know more than you can ever imagine.

These discussions are not censored so the information you get here may likely be unverified. On the flip side, they also have the liberty of saying things that the dignified analysts on most TV discussions will not be able to say. This makes such discussions and arguments very interesting. I took a closer look at the regulars and I also noticed another group of “faithfuls” that derive pleasure in hearing the opinion of others. In some instances, they know the professors that make the discussion interesting and would eagerly wait for them to come.

As soon as the professors appear, the atmosphere of the discussion centre will change immediately. The professors know the topics and issues that will make the discussion interesting because they often listen to news and must have heard about the topics. So, in my opinion, I feel the people’s parliament should be recognised and encouraged for several reasons.

Are you wondering why I want them to be encouraged? Come on, we know that the number of suicide rates in our country has increased and if someone can at least listen to other people talk, it will reduce the likelihood of suicide. At least, they will have a platform where they can vent their anger on the government that has completely refused to do what is right.

Another importance of the people’s parliament is the unedited information which cannot be freely shared on the news media. Despite the fact that some of the information may not be correct, some are also true. When people have the chance to vent their anger on national issues that have existed like forever, it greatly reduces the possibility of depression... really! Come on, we all know that we feel better when we share our burden with trusted friends and family.

Seriously, what I don't like about discussions and analysis is that in Nigeria, we are good at analysing issues. We discuss these corrupt politicians who are even aware that we can only talk about it both on print media and news media and it ends there. No action!

I was told that a man will have no option when pushed to the wall than to turn back and fight for his dear life, however, in Nigeria, the reverse is the case. Are you wondering what the average Nigeria will do when pushed to the wall... including my humble self? Hahahahaha... we'll just break down some of the blocks and find a space that fits our size and relocate while the politicians not only occupy our space but also discomfort us from time to time in our small hole on the wall. Especially when we experience things like fuel scarcity and other petty issues that has remained a mystery.

Truly, the average Nigerian should ask questions and ponder over the past election that brought in change... for how long shall we be easily deceived by these inhumane politicians that have laid siege on our nation from its inception? I wonder when this nightmare will stop... I wonder if we will ever get it right.

Anyway, I just feel like sharing my thoughts and also the exploits of the people’s parliament. Thanks for reading and most importantly, remember, 2019 is around the corner and we should try to make the best decisions.

Sort:

They are truly the people's parliament.

Yeah, sometimes I like hanging out with them. Thanks for stopping by!
