Of course they say that.. Consumers are claiming otherwise, just google it. Naturally, every time someone makes a complaint, Amazon assures them that "This is a very rare occurrence and we're investigating a fix." Utter bullshit.

The devices are good for one thing only, data-mining and categorization of society. Insight into how that info will be used can be easily understood by reading Orwell's 1984, or from the films "Terminator" and "Minority Report". It's just another layer of monitoring. Between smartphones, computers, GPS systems in our cars, credit/debit cards, there is enough data available to reasonably predict what the average person will do before that individual actually knows what their plans are. Why not ad a recording device into your home which is owned by the largest online shopping/search/data companies on earth, and who are all known for working directly with (and/or receiving funding from) the government?

I'm disappointed that I even have a Smartphone but they're practically impossible to be without nowadays. Every time I think about it, it pisses me off. I'd rather be on a quiet beach with a room full of printed books and no internet connection.
