Aloe Vera: The Health Benefits

in #aloe7 years ago

Aloe Vera plant has been used in herbal medicine as a natural remedy to some conditions throughout history, and with continued research into the potential health benefits of the plant, a growing number of aloe vera products are now available in shops and on the Internet.

The Aloe Vera Plant

Aloe Vera is a plant that was originally found in Africa, the Canary Islands, and Cape Verde, but it is now grown throughout the world and can be grown all year round. It usually requires an arid climate, making it a very hardy plant to be cultivated and produced successfully. Despite this, it can be grown in the home if placed in a sunny position (but not in direct sunlight) and watered infrequently.

The aloe vera leaf is the key to its health benefits as the spiky-looking thick leaves produce the cooling gel often used to treat a variety of conditions.

Aloe Vera acts as a Healing Gel

Aloe vera can be used as a gel to treat burns, minor wounds, and many skin conditions such as sunburn and mild eczema. The natural cooling effect of the gel that the plant produces is an excellent natural remedy in soothing skin irritation, and it is non-greasy, meaning it will not stain clothing.

The anti-inflammatory properties of aloe vera make it useful in the repair of damaged skin and can help in the reduction of the appearance of scar tissue over time. However, caution should be taken if applied to an open wound as with many gel based products it may irritate.

Aloe Vera Juice has many benefits

Taken internally, aloe vera juice it is capable of treating heartburn and intestinal conditions such as irritable bowel syndrome. It promotes good intestinal health by helping to ease constipation and improve the general well-being of the digestive system.

Research has also been done into the beneficial effects of aloe vera on more severe gastrointestinal conditions including ulcerative colitis and Crohn’s disease. Many Internet websites selling aloe vera claim the health benefits of it in reducing the anti-inflammatory effects and managing the symptoms of the above long-term illnesses; however, it should be noted that the amount of research conducted is minimal.

Additionally, the natural source of aloe vera also means it is a suitable product for vegetarians and vegans.

Other Aloe Vera Products

Aloe vera can also be found in some everyday products ranging from tissues to skin products. Tissues contain aloe vera to ease the discomfort of material on bare, sensitive skin, such as the nose during a cold. Skin toners containing aloe vera have developed over the years into a trendy product alongside face washes and soap with the products promoting healthy skin and claiming to help reduce the effects of ageing.
