The idea of free Wi-Fi for everyone is one that has excited many tech visionaries.
Facebooks plan to scale out free Wi-Fi to India was cancelled following concerns that it discriminated against websites that wouldn’t be included in their “free basics” package.
But, while the execution of the idea was a failure the goal itself was exciting.
Free Wi-Fi for everyone could be a game changer if it was rolled out one global scale.
One of the problems with previous approaches to this goal has been that they have been top down.
But picture a solution that is completely decentralised and takes advantage of all of the million private routers that already exist.
Enter World WiFi.
World WiFi is a decentralised network that any private router owner can connect to and start making money from their connection by offering free WiFi. Income is earned through short video ads that are displayed to the users of these free WiFi connections.
Here we’re going to look at World WiFi in a little more detail to explain how it all works.
Goals For World WiFi
In the first three years of operation World WiFi plans to connect a minimum of 20 million WiFi routers to their platform.
This would be approximately 5% of the total number of private routers that are predicted to exist in 2021.
World WiFi will charge advertisers a fee which will be 5% of the cost of advertising which is shown through the World WiFi network.
They estimated their will be 60 connections being made to the network per router. With a one viewing of an advertising video and an average cost of $0.03 per view.
Based on this World WiFi believes it can hit a revenue target of $1 Billion + in after year three of operation.
How World WiFi Works For Private Router Owners
Connecting to the World WiFi network is a relatively simple process for private router owners.
First the router owner receives an invitation from the World WiFi network which they accept. In order to receive this invite the router owner either needs to participate in the WeToken ICO, receive an invite from another user or to obtain a invite link at the World WiFi website.
The next step is to register in the World WiFi system and to install the required software on the router. This will create a separate open network which can be used to provide free internet.
To reward the user for joining the network they will receive a welcome bonus in the form of tokens. These tokens can be withdrawn once the owner has watch advertising of equivalent value to the bonus. This will provide the primary targeting data which will be supplied to the advertiser.
Once the open network is in operation the home router owner will start to accrue WeTokens. These will be based on the number of ads that are viewed and the type of person who is viewing them. More high value users will result in greater token payouts.
Router owners will be able to convert WeTokens into other cryptocurrencies or into fiat currency once certain thresholds are met.
Growing World WiFi Organically
World WiFi have developed a network that you should be able to grow organically. When someone refers another router owner, and that router owner joins the network the tokens will be distributed between the two parties. The more people who join the more referrals there should be. This should help the network to grow without having to invest constantly in new marketing and promotion.
Participating In WeToken Token Sale
WeToken will be offered in a public token sale. You can read more about the WeToken token sale at:

Love the idea, but after researching the team and the set-up, that's about all I like. Plenty of out there though, what do you think of mark.space?
