Recently AMD released their beta driver catering specifically to miners. Named the "Radeon Software Crimson ReLive Edition Beta for Blockchain Compute" this driver is aimed at the performance and efficiency of blockchain mining for the Radeon 400's, 500's, and Vega series of GPU's.
After installing the new beta drivers its improvements are instantly recognized. I tested them out on my RX 580 8gb before and after the driver install. The test was done with no overclocking or any bios modifications. Just a completely stock install of the beta driver and Claymore's Dual ETH Miner.
Pre-Blockchain Driver
Before the driver install I was running the latest Radeon Drivers - 17.7.2. Speeds would fluctuate between 21.xx mh/s and topping out at 23.xx mh/s for ETH. While mining Etherium I was also mining SiaCoin at speeds between 600-700 mh/s. I noticed the speeds jumping around quite abit.
Post-Blockchain Driver
After installing AMD's new blockchain driver the ETH hashrate increased to a steady 24.xx mh/s. The fluctuation stopped. I never witnessed it dipping into the "23's" at all. It stayed between 24.107-24.786 mh/s for a solid 4 hours. The results for SiaCoin were very similiar. It also ran very steady for 4 hours with a gain of 30 mh/s. It stayed above 700 mh/s the entire time with an average of 730 mh/s.
RX 580 got an average of 24.44 mh/s with new blockchain drivers mining ETH
RX 580 got an average of 730.xx mh/s with new blockchain drivers mining SC
Keep in mind there was ZERO effort in tweaking this cards performance or efficiency. Everything was just installed and executed. And there were visible gains to be had. I think the real improvement here is it stability. Yes, the top speed increased by 2.5 mh/s but more importantly the hashrate is continually above 24 mh/s, compared the previous drivers that run in the 21-22 mh/s most of the time and jumps up to 23 sporadically. I have seen much more impressive numbers from miners who invest the time in squeezing every drop of performance out of their hardware. I am not a miner. I'm just a curious dude with an RX 580. And this info is for anyone wondering what they could expect with little to no effort and an RX 580.
