Cool city, cool people, everybody's speaking English. If it's summer time everybody greets you in English, whether you go to the shop, or if you're just daygaming on the street. Looked like to me, that there's more foreign employees there than natives, observing the hospitality industry, which is great!
Anyway the city is supersafe, warm and welcoming and you feel it in the air, along with the sent of cookies mixed with pot and semi salty water.
Like to any city, there's also a downside, like birds dumping on your camera (there is actually that many of them in the air, specially around main square), or some stoned tourist knocking the phone out of your hand, cause everyone's just walking around blind, looking up in the air at the buildings and not actually where they're going and there's a HORDE of them, Everywhere! It's actually too much.. too many people in such a small area. So make sure you wrap your phone good with everything you got, tempered glass, shock resistant cases, flip flops and all of that, while you're taking pictures, unless it falls into the river...
But that's it.. so, not so bad for a downside.
When it comes to diversity, it's diverse enough and you can see everybody there, but to experience the real thing and get to see how locals roll, you need to go further around the center. The center is very much booked for the summer and it's mostly tourists there, so it's not that different than Prague when it comes to that.
You can get anywhere around the center on foot, it's actually not that big, wich is also great and for anything else you can take a tram, or a bus, or a bicycle. If you're coming to the city by bus you need to buy a day bus/tram ticket to get around and to get from main Sloterdijk station to the city. It's the only way, unless you have a car. And it'll cost you €20, yup!
Anyway great city to visit and go there again!
You don't have to be into red district, coffee shops and pubcrawls to go there, cause there's plenty of other things to do too.
Or you can come just for the buildings, they're quirky.
