Look at this cool guy I met in Amsterdam as I left the metro!

Yesterday I continued to explore Amsterdam and as I left the metro station "Waterlooplein" the first thing I saw and the first creature I met was the following guy.

Based on what I know, this is a Grey Heron of some sort, and it looks really cool. It likes to live close to waters, rivers, canals, and if it gets to cold, it often flies south, but since it is the start of January and it is actually quite cold (around 0 Celsius) in Amsterdam, I guess that isn't cold enough for this guy to leave the area. And honestly, I have seen them several places in Amsterdam and elsewhere in the Netherlands, so it is a quite normal bird to run into. Did you know that they often just stand in the water like a quite statue, and then they just suddenly attack food swimming by in the water?

Well, this guy for sure colored up my day, and I believe many people would have made a picture of it if they met it in the zoo. But, in the Netherlands you don't have to go to the zoo to see it, because it can mostly be seen anywhere where you find water or canals (and that is approximately all of the Netherlands).

Today I will be heading back to Amsterdam to see some more, and then my exploration of the city will take a break. But, it has been fun and I actually appreciate the city more and more, the more time I spend in it! More about that later!
