I have been hard at it, even though I'm feeling a bit guilty that my Steemit blog hasn't been showing it.
In the picture, you can see pretty much all I need to start making docs and other videos promoting open source/ voluntary action projects.
Introducing my documentary gear.
My Panasonic GH5 with Metabones Extreme and the Sigma 18-35 lens. It is mounted with a Tascam stereo mic/ recorder. In the padded box is my Comica dual wireless lavaliere system. Below that is the camera bag with an Olympus M. Zuiko Pro 7- 14 and a pile of other paraphernalia.
Under all of that is the amazing 3DR Solo drone. I am waiting to see what DJI delivers this fall and will likely score one of their small machines. Or a big one. Or both. I don't know.
That is it in a nutshell. Premium audio and video to tell the stories I want to tell.
Now I just need to get together with projects and people and help them get the word out.
As far as funding, I have had a few seemingly good ideas. I will leave them for another day.
I would love to have gear like this. I just have a smartphone to use. So I do not do a whole lot. Good luck on your endeavor.
Nothing wrong with smart phones, especially for vlog or home made sort of stuff. The biggest challenge is still audio.
Using smart phones is a genre in its own.
Yes, it is and it works, to a point, I just will be glad to be able to get a nice camera and maybe a drone. I like to take shots of scenery and shots of the moon and a smartphone does not good a good job of that. I have seen the lens you can add to a smartphone, just not sure if it is worth spending the money on.

Any idea where your projects are going to take you first? Want to offer a bit of a preview?
I'm hoping to do some work with MeshNet folks. The leaders seem to be in Washington state or New York City. I would love to make a primer for diy folks to get a better idea of how to build networks.
There is also an alternative education school right near me that I heard about on a recent School Sucks Podcast. I haven't reached out to them yet, so I don't know if they will want to do a project, but they are so close, I hope so. I just finished a proposal for them yesterday. Will probably call tomorrow.
