Dear Anarchists,
Food for Thought here with a question to everybody who considers themselves to be anarchist and/or anarcho-capitalist. Can you please explain what your ideology is all about? And please without swear words, I'd like to keep this discussion as clean and intellectual as possible.
I'm a religious person and I always perceived anarchists to be people who are against any government, rule and law. If my perception is correct what about this? If I decide to kill you, would this fit into an anarchist mindset? There are no laws and rules then that protect you since no laws should be applied. And.. if I decide to rob you blind, am I able to do this according to the anarchistic thought processes, because again, no law or moral-ethical rule that protects you from my indecent behaviour. Or am I wrong about this hypothesis? I always appreciate meeting other people and try to understand them.
So please present yourself and explain to me concerning your ideology. I'd like to hear your take on anarchy, being an anarchist and what anarcho-capitalism is all about. Please remember, decent language please.
Dear @food-for-thought, I was just browsing the category of anarchism and noticed your post and that nobody has responded to your questions yet. Let me just say that it is not easy to get noticed among the daily avalanche of content being posted here.
You ask some highly relevant questions that deserve answers. Anarchism is all about being against the state as an institution, which is seen as an unnecessary evil. Beyond this core belief, different anarchists hold different views on a lot of things. Being against the state does not mean being against rules, laws or (voluntary) hierarchies. I am against the state because it is based on force and not on voluntary association, as well as because it is inefficient. Furthermore, I believe that security and protection, as well as conflict resolution, can be provided privately.
Let me recommend a couple of books from which you can learn more about this:
Michael Huemer: The Problem of Political Authority (https://www.amazon.com/Problem-Political-Authority-Examination-Coerce/dp/1137281650)
Edward Stringham (ed.) Anarchy and the Law (http://www.independent.org/store/book.asp?id=67)
The first one is a monograph written by a philosopher that provides a good introduction. The second is an anthology containing articles and book excerpts about the theory, debate, and history of (private property) anarchism, as well as historical case studies.
I hope this will be a good starting point for further investigations into the topic. Good luck!
Thank you for the presented exploration.
Honestly I dont consider myself a anarchist but i have been told some of my ideas and thoughts are anarchist, I am against government control over us, we as people control the government and rules are there for a reason but when a anarchist says he is against laws and things like that , i think he is referring to regulations and mandates that are depriving the people of something or lineing the ritches pocket off of the backs of the poor.
Thank you for your response.
