Let's Replace The Words Anarcho/Anarchy with Something Else

in #anarchy8 years ago (edited)

I enjoy the posts on anarcho-capitalism and am intrigued by the idea of decentralization using technology but the average person's reaction when they're exposed to the word "anarchy" is worse than "conspiracy theorist." If these ideas are ever to gain any genuine traction, then these words need to be replaced with something that doesn't remind people of post-apocalyptic skinheads wearing face-masks, camouflage and wielding hammers and chainsaws while jumping on top of police cars.

I looked up the word "anarchy" on Thesaurus.com and these were the closest synonyms.
Chaos. Confusion. Disorder. Hostility. Nihilism. Rebellion. Riot. Turmoil. Unrest. Disorganization...
And the last synonym? Reign of terror.

These are the images people conjure up in their minds by this word and its derivatives. So what could properly replace the word "Anarchy" with an equivalent urgency? Perhaps the aesthetic and emotional impact a word should be avoided and a more sobering word would be appropriate in this move towards the future?

Personally, I think "decentralized" is the term everyone should stick with. Sure, "anarchy" sounds better and cooler and gives you a boner but this will not carry well into the mainstream mindset and will damage any hope of a positive impression on people in the general population. First impressions matter and "anarchy" gives off a negative one.

Sort:

I'm an anarchonihilist so I'm fine with the association with chaos. I believe it has to come first.

I agree. The word 'anarchist' has been demonized the same way as 'liberal'. 'Bad people' do that. They co opt cool words and try to hide behind them. For a while it works. The Dhmikrats have co opted progressive when they are anything BUT progressive.

The TEA party tried that. Then they got demonized.
So I dunno.
It's an on going problem.

What makes you holding unto capitalism then? Like with socialism, there's stateless forms we've never seen, and statist implementations we learned to hate.
If anything, keep the anarchy ;)

I use the term capitalist in the sense that people generally want to make money. Statesless forms we've never seen is kinda like peering 100 years into the future. But then again, in 20 years we may have AI just telling us what's best. :)

I like the word Voluntaryist / Voluntaryism.

There's a Podcast, LAVA (Libertarian, Anarcho-capitalist, Voluntaryist, Agorist): http://thelavaflow.com/

Ooh. Voluntaryism. I like it. Gracias, amigo.
