Anarchapulco officially ended for me just over two weeks ago when the final members of my extended Anarchapulco family left for their other home.
Since then I’ve had time to properly digest this amazing event and time in my life.
This year has certainly been transformational for me. The high hopes that are standard for me were hit from multiple sides with bad and then very bad news. Certainly John Galton’s death and the days following lowered expectations and introduced many fears as possibilities for everyone. New and old faces added more drama and potential problems.
Needless to say, I made a firm decision to make the most of it.
This year I had the privilege of being the Volunteer Coordinator. With little more than a week to go I got the final go ahead to round up volunteers. I quickly emailed people that had volunteered via the website. I ended up with about 15 responses that we incorporated into the volunteer group with a few additions along the way. That group of people was one of the high points for me. The volunteers for Anarchapulco this year shined brightly in so many ways. I’m sure many of the attendees can attribute positives as a result of them being there to help. They participated in practically every aspect in some way shape or form. We had four of the speakers volunteer to give the volunteers some added inspiration. Peter Sage, Jonny Dupre, Anil Gupta and Becca Tzighany all added something special to the experience of being a volunteer. I’m confident many long-time mindsets and friendships have formed as a result.
The average day was somewhere between 12-16 hours for me and I can honestly say, I pretty much enjoyed every moment of it! In addition I held a workshop entitled “The Great Anarchist Experiment”. It went better than expected with everyone who participated really letting the light bulbs go off. I was thrilled! Previously, I had done a speech in 2017 on the B-stage with my brother Jake, but for me, the workshops are where it’s at. Learning something valuable that one can apply to their everyday life… is so important to further the growth of this movement and our experience!
By far my most favorite part of the whole week is the Unofficial Party which I throw each year that has become a tradition. We had a full house with somewhere in the range of 250 to 300 people present at one point or another. I had the opportunity to meet and greet each one. We started at 5pm on Monday afternoon and finished with sunrise around 7am on Tuesday. I think just about everyone commented that it was one of the highlights of the experience for them. I know it was for me.
With that said, I want to try an remain somewhat brief. So I’ll simply say I made a determined effort to be involved this year and it was amazing for me in so many ways and introduced me to so many fine people. Seriously, some very amazing people! Thet have already affected me deeply in so many positive ways. It’s a fairly long list and if you’ve spoken to me at any length over the past few months, it very well probably includes you. It’s really boosted my hope for the future and confidence that there can be a happy rewarding adventurous peaceful existence for many more.
I know there is trouble present. There are challenges to be faced and much work to be done. But I’m now convinced we have a solid chance at affecting the future positively for those who are willing to pay attention and become more aware of the bigger picture. We won’t always agree, but that’s ok. It’s an opportunity!
For me going forward, there’s big news. I’ve got a very big project cooking that I think a lot of people are going to become more and more excited about as they find out more details. The Satoshi Awards. I’ve decided to slow down the progress on my book as I spend a bit more time experimenting and working with some willing partners and volunteers in working with the method I’ve labeled “Ethical Emergence”. Which I struggle to describe eloquently but at the moment one sentence that could describe it is: A combination of long term thinking combined with the power to develop beneficial habits and shed detrimental ones that leads to the successful realization of what one really wants and needs, and successfully brings that to reality via a better understanding of the relationship between the conscious and subconscious mind, how to remove doubt, communicate meaningfully and work well with others as peers. We’ve started something called “Innovation Lab” which I intend to keep doing regularly to boost people’s interest in not only thinking about how we can cleverly use what we have around us innovatively but also actually doing it.
Finally, I’ll point out my continued love for Acapulco. The people, the place, the atmosphere and environment here. It’s truly a place to experience the fullness of life. Please come visit, I’d be very happy to introduce anyone interested to its many wonders. And if you’ve been here, take the time to revisit what I’m sure you might have just had a glimpse of… I guarantee, there’s more!
I strive to be a Peacemaker, an Entrepreneur and a Ambassador for Great Ideas (ie a Problem solver). I also wish to be a Artist, a Mentor and an Ethicist one day. At times I struggle to communicate the passions I have but I endeavor to do so meaningfully from my heart to others. All as I enjoy my life as a never-ending vacation in a place I adore. I care about what I do, I care about the people I do it with and I leave the rest to fall into place. ~ MikeonFire
