Who are You?
and what's in a name
for someone who claims soveriegnty?
Do you have a name that you chose or that resonates with you?
Conventionally, we are given a combination of sounds and meaning from our parents that can be a guide for our life's mission or our personality development.
A name is a personal mantra...we hear it so much, write it and speak it countless times in a life, so it's interesting that we unconsciously allow for something we don't get to voluntarily choose to have such an impact on our psyches.
As Anarchists or Voluntaryists this is especially intriguing as that in order to fully embrace Self-Ownership, it's imperative to inquire deeply within about one's own name, and whether it feels appropriate to continue to use.
Just as we question beliefs or worldviews that were passed down from obedience training camps, aka public schools and government, religious or familial institutions, we might enhance our empowerment out of the malaise of collective disempowering beliefs through also staking claim in how we want to be called.
As adults we can, of course, change our names. I have some experience with this...
I reclaimed my full birth name though eventually after experiencing mySelf labelled first as a childhood nickname that i never liked and later a few spiritual names given to me in various wisdom traditions that I had deeply embraced.
After meditating on those names and attempting to burn their impressions strongly into my subconscious, I eventually recognized the value in my own original given name...and i decided to claim it
as my own,
for I learned its hidden meaning,
at least in the language Malayalam from South India, Kerala to be precise,
which by the way, is not what my parents were thinking when choosing this name, (at least consciously!)
.
tamara = lotus flower
.
Here "i" am arising from the decaying old structure, ancient paradigms of old ignorant violent dominion,
as the luscious bloom "i" was destined to be ~
Now i see it as my destiny; my ancestral lineage wanted me to purify their legacy and be
a transformer or transmuter of the ignorant patterns of abuse,
taking the putrid pains
and traumas symbolized by the mud and using them as fertilizer for my own personal evolution or capacity for inspired, conscious living as a being of love
not repeating the wreckage of the past, but laying it to rest at last.
Tamara also comes from the root "Tamar" in Hebrew and means date fruit, or palm tree and in Russian, it means Queen. Those meanings also have some power for me, but as that most of my interest has been in the yogic traditions and eastern philosophies, the meaning that came from a language birthed in India, is the one that aligned most with me.
.
So I ask you again
who are you?
Does your name help you embody who you want to be? ....
if not, you might want to research the languages throughout the world and see if it holds a more resonant meaning in a different tongue.
or try referring to yourSelf in a new chosen way.
You are so very precious,
and without your complete ownership of this and steadfast recognition,
the world will not be able to honor your sovereignty fully.
with love,
your yogini anarchist ~
