You can also go to telegram settings, and mute notifications from specific groups or chats. That might come in more handy though!
You may choose not to ignore all posts.

Thomas has tried everything, including silencing all notifications in the application itself, but still Telegram surprised him now and then with annoying notifications. So, this was by far the best solution Thomas has found so far!
