Android is an open source project of Google. Mostly we use android mobile in our day to day life. Android is one of the most open, and customizable mobile operating systems out there. You may think that you don't need to root your android phone, but you should be surprised to know that how much more you can implement your android mobile with rooting your android phone. There are some reasons for rooting your phone.
You can own your android device, and you should be able to do with it what you want to do. Certain manufacturers and carriers try to keep that from happening, but with root access of your android phone, you can truly own your Android device and can open yourself up to all the possible things other operating androids system try to block. Sure, there's some risk involved, and we don't usually recommend rooting other people's phones, but in the end, you can't put a price on true openness and control.
Custom ROM is basically a custom version for your android, and it seriously changes how you use your android phone. Some developers bring a stock ROM version for an Android to non-stock android phones or later versions of Android phones that don't have yet. Some of them add a few awesome features, some add lots of really cool features, and some change your android operating system from header to footer. No matter what android phone you have, even if it's a Nexus—we highly recommend checking out Rom for your android mobile on google. You won't be disappointed.
Note: As some of you have noted that you don't actually need root your android phone to access to flash your android phone to custom ROM—though you just need to unlock your android phone bootloader (in this process that sometimes comes bundled with root access of your android). Still, it requires your Android device manufacturer features. So I think Rooting is good for your android phone.
