Kangaroo Paw Plant Features
Kangaroo paw is an unusual and special warm-weather perennial that shows off interesting brightly colored, velvety flowers. The buds of this Australian native have an interesting shape and that's where the name kangaroo paw comes from. In addition to being beautiful, kangaroo paw is an excellent, long-lasting cut flower and also attracts butterflies and hummingbirds into the garden. The plant's fantastic heat tolerance makes it a top pick for containers on sunny decks and patios in the North.

Kangaroo paw has almost grassy leaves and tall stems of flowers, so it's ideal for mixing in with more traditional mounding perennials to add a splash of texture. In container gardens, kangaroo paw is an excellent "thriller" plant and takes on the role of being a focal point wherever it's planted.

Most varieties grow from 2-4 feet tall. It's hardy in zone 10, but is often grown as an annual in colder zones.
