Bulgaria is a small county in Eastern Europe, with 7 million people population and more than 9000 homeless dogs only in the capital - Sofia.
A lot of people buy pedigree dog which costs hundreds of euro just because it's kind of fashion despite the great number of homeless dogs. Moreover some of them do not think what obligation is to take care of one.
If the dog get sick or get pregnant (especially from non-pedigree dog) most of the people here get rid of it and do not look back :(
Many people are angry due to this situation, and decided to take the power in their own hands, poisoning the dogs, but they do not solve the problem, because the main problem is in the people and their actions
Few months ago a friend of mine called to tell that Siberian Husky is walking around the park and in last few days become thinner and walk with stagger. We already have one Husky and another dog rescued from the road (Westie) and we decided to see what's happening. We took the dog and went to the vet. The dog was poisoned and there was the need on immediate medical attention. The dog was 2 weeks in the clinic on treatment, meanwhile we searched for its owners. No one answered.

Since then the dog lives with us and became part of our family but thousands of dogs in the country don't have such a luck, because the city hall do not take any precautions.
In this moment in the capital (and not only there) great number of Bobtails, Huskies, Golden Retrievers etc and many non-pedigree dogs are walking alone, homeless and waiting for their owner to come back but that never happens.

great, thanks for your help! at least someone is doing something for this poor dogs!
Such a great thing that you're doing
It's so sad what they've been through :(
This is a problem the world over -over breeding dogs for money, people wanting puppies instead of going to a rescue and not getting their dogs neutered all leads to this problem. I see 100's of stray dogs roaming Cairo and its heartbreaking . Education is needed..
