Dangerous Spider from Thailand

in #animal7 years ago

Hi, Dear Steemian Friends.

Today I would like to speak about a spider that has bitten some of the people I know and would like to know if anyone has some information about it. This spider is found in Thailand but I believe it is common in South East Asia countries. Every year, at the beginning of the rainy season we have many of these spiders coming inside houses. It as nothing to do with Tarantulas that stay calm in their holes in the garden, this kind is sometimes big like my hand and very fast and can also jump at least a meter. It also has the ability to run on the water surface. I would like to know the name of this spider, Thais around my house call it "maingmum pit" and if I traduct in English it means "spider with poison". This spider is really aggressive and really fast, so it is hard to kill. It also seems it has a very good vision as if I come close to try to kill it with a bloom it starts to run and quickly find a place where it is hard to get it. I also, witness a big dog walking on one of these spiders and the spider starts to run after the dog in an attack position. I never see something like that before and even if it happens with a tarantula it will back up from the dog not attack. One of my friend here get bitten by one on his leg and the result is really bad starting with a big blueish abscess, after a few days it turns into a deep hole in the flesh and after more than a month of treatment he has many necroses where he was bitten. Another friend gets a really nasty bite next to his hand and the bite was nearly like a venomous snake bite even he was under medication to get it cure. Other people also tell me that it is a bad spider. A few years ago was registered in Pattaya the first human death because of this spider. I am sure the death is the cause of the man getting allergic to the venom. If anyone has the name of this spider please let me know as now it is the start of the rainy season and some of them enter our house. The spider in the picture was around 8 cm but some are more like 15 cm with the legs. Thank you.

Here is the spider.

OMG! This is so scary! I had seen the big spider in my Chiangmai house too. But I am not sure what is the name and never realized of its poison. I once found it in my restroom but just didn't want to kill it. So we just lived together happily. Lol! Lucky me that I was not bitten.
Thanks for the warning.

From what I know there are three species that looks very close only the color change. The dark brown is the one that is aggressive and dangerous. Seems like it is all over Thailand and people in Chiang Mai don't like it. Its fangs are very big and remind me of the tarantula one just smaller. I try to not kill it but it is a way too fast and will not let me take it on a bloom to put it out.

From now on I'll run away from it no matter what colour it is :)

Better kill it at least you can be sure it will not come to bother you during your sleep.

Hahaha, I am not fast enough so I'll let my husband do it :)

Better let your husband do the job because it is rare to get them on the first try. :)

Yes thank you so much ka :)

I'm scared. We have to be careful. Thank you for sharing, your post is really useful for Asia people.

Yes, it is scary. Not many people are aware of this spider, only farmers say it has venom and take a long time to cure. My two friends know it now. When I look at his wrist I was thinking the hospital will have to cut his hand. From what I know there is only one fatality case over Thailand, in Pattaya. I am happy to bring some knowledge to the Thais if they can avoid getting bitten by it. Thank you.

Kill it!!!!! I hate spider!!!!when i saw it, it was so scared. I've been scorpion bitten once. I cried like a baby. It really painful. I can't imagine that spider bite me brrrrr!!!!!!creepy!! You know, even the small one I killed it.

Thanks for info😊😊😊

Sure it is painful to be bitten by scorpions, but this kind of spider makes huge necroses like my friend wrist, I cannot imagine someone gets a bite on the face. I also kill them if it enter my house.

That is scary! I have never seen it. Any report of it being in Bangkok?

Hi, @gmichelbkk. Sure there is some in Bangkok, it like to stay in the greenery but when the rainy season arrives it like to sneak in houses. That's really a bad one and a few years ago they show on TV this guy who die from it in his room, probably because of an allergic reaction to the venom.

Poison or not I will kill them all. My mom used to touch it s hair that fell on the floor after she killed it and got allergic, itchy and spots.

If your mom has killed a tarantula kind even a baby (แมงมุมพิษตัวใหญ่ชนิดหนึ่ง) it has urticaria type hair and it is itchy. Tarantulas use it and spray it in the air for the invader to breath it and it is very bad in the lungs.

Oh. They all are very dangerous แมงมม🕷

Not all most of them in Thailand are not dangerous but this one is and also a tiny black with the red spots on the back "Black widow" it is about 1.5cm but can kill human.

Oh! The spider has a strong poison but I do not know what type of this spider. Wish your friend get well soon.

He is cure now but has a big scare on his wrist.

น่ากลัวมากค่ะ

Yes, it is scary. A few years ago they show a man died from it in his Pattaya room.

น่ากลัวมากครับ แบบนี้ต้องสังเหตุและระวังให้มากๆ

Sure, better look two times before because it is very aggressive.

เป็นอะไรที่น่ากลัวมากๆครับ

Yes it is very scary.

I think its wolf spider

I was thinking the same at first but after a few searches it is very close to the wolf spider only the color change but it can be a subspecies of wolf spider. In fact, it is between the Wolf Spider and the Huntsman Spider but I believe it is a subspecies because both Wolf and Huntsman Spiders have not so strong venom and aren't aggressive.
