The fairy penguin, named for its small size, is native to Australia and New Zealand. These little birds might best be known for their nightly “parade” home, after a long day in the ocean, across Summerland Beach on Philip Island in Victoria, Australia. It’s so popular that crowds of people often go to watch. On this island, alone, there are an estimated 70,000 of these birds.
