Fuck Canada Goose: my day in NYC

in #animalcruelty7 years ago (edited)

I went to New York City for the day with my girlfriend and her family for, well, essentially no reason.

I have not been to the city a lot, and was excited. And despite all the cultural things I saw that I was originally inspired to share, one thing stood out to me more than the others:

Every single trendy rich hipster (or even just your typical mother) in the city was wearing a Canada Goose jacket.

I was not familiar with the brand until recently, when my girlfriend and her sister told me about the brand.

Amidst lunch, I looked it up on my phone, and saw an article about the staggering amount of coyote abuse that goes into the production of these jackets.

It was 11 degrees Fahrenheit today, and windy as fuck. As a result, practically no one was outside by choice. However, the only place I saw people lined up outside of was the Canada Goose store, which had an inappropriately long line of wealthy people lining up for what seemed to be an event.

I originally felt compelled to say something when I saw we were walking by a Canadian Goose outlet store. The line outside discouraged me from trying to go inside the store; but my girlfriend did talk to the people in the line about animal cruelty, managing to get some of them to turn away. However, most of them didn't seem to care, and were eager to spend the better part of a grand on some stupid black coyote fur jacket and support a company that puts an insurmountable number of animals through torture and slaughter.

I felt compelled to write this post to see if others knew about the unethical movement that is supporting this company and to spread awareness, if at all possible. Please resteem if you find this important, or write your own post if you feel mine is inadequate. As long as the word continues to spread.

Such a shitty World, I wasnt aware of this brand. Thanks for the article, resteemed.

I had seen the logo, but wasn't aware of who they were until fairly recently. It took going to a large city to see the extent of the general public's support(I'm not exaggerating, every 1 in 3 people was wearing a coat by the company).

Thank you for sharing. I hope more can become aware of the evils behind this bullshit.

mankind being shitty again huh. sigh. anyways, resteemed!

Yeah what a shocker huh? But I do appreciate you taking the time to read my rant. Thank you sir

Humans are an invasive species.
At least you turned a few people away

Yes we are, unfortunately.

I'm glad at least some cared. The others just looked down at their phones

Canada goose can SUCK IT! There is Zero reason for the real fur trim they use! There are so many different options out there that could be used instead. I always, rightly or wrongly comment if I see someone wearing real fur, only a pack of scumbags!

Keep up the great work, Followed, upvoted and resteemed!

Feel free to follow me and my reasons are here ===>https://steemit.com/introduceyourself/@moonunit/little-pig-little-pig-let-me-in

moonunit I like your style!! I was trying to follow you before but have been having some account issues, seems to have been resolved. I can't wait to try those recipes!

Good stuff @herbertholmes, please let me know how you get on. I have enjoyed your feed thus far.

terrible, cruel, and stupidly expensive. It's been gnawing at my brain more recently...why do other creatures have to die so we may live? I'm not a vegan (please don't yell at me ;_;) but I have been trying to mindfully reduce my meat consumption and have been thinking of ways to eat more vegetables. I was very proud of the cashew cheese I made the other day! :D

Also, by the way, cashew cheese sounds delicious! I would love to try

And I would have no right to yell at you! I am a self-proclaimed hypocrite on the situation. When people ask if I'm vegan my response typically is "no, but I should be".

I am still working on it as well. I have drastically reduced my meat consumption, although my girlfriend is having a tough time accepting that. She keeps buying meat and insisting that I need it because of my size (I'm a rather large guy, 6'4").

Anyways, glad to know I'm not the only one struggling with it. Thanks!

You're welcome dude! I think that in trying to be mindful, and making better choices as much as you can is better than nothing. :D
