A member of the Parrot family, part of the same group as Cockatoos, is the Galah. These pink and grey birds are a familiar sight across Australia and are often seen in flocks with Cockatoos and Corellas. They are good mimics and can often be heard mimicking cat miaowing and dog barking, or possum hissing.
Because of their clownish behaviour and racous calls, they have become a form of insult in Australia, and someone behaving like a buffoon is refered to as a galah.
A bushman recipe for cooking galahs:
Put into billy with a stone in the bottom, cover with water and boil.
Add seasoning.
Pour out water.
Throw away galah and eat stone.
Apparently they are pretty tough...
