Ground Squirrels in the high grass

The ground squirrles are already gone in hibernation sleep for this winter but since I like them very much and think they are pretty cute, I look through the pictures from time to time, and I also have a som big printed photos from the ground squirrels hanging on the wall in my flat. So I am reminded of their cuteness every time I look on the wall behind my bed. (They are protecting and watching me during sleep).

The last time I visited them the grass was already pretty high, so it was not so easy to take some pictures of these cute animals since they often hid behind high grass and only showed up from time to time. The best time for taking pictures is spring when the grass is still very short or in summer when the grass is already dried off and therefore also very short.

During spring when the grass is still very green it is a lot easier to spot these cute little creatures, and then also the grass is not so hight like in summer. But in Summer they have a camouflage color in their fur.

In high grass they are way more difficult to photograph, because sometimes you don't even see them moving. Picture: Florian Glechner.
