Tero real - Himantopus melanurus - South American Stilt

This beautiful and slender bird is very abundant in our area, Mar del Plata, Argentina. We find it in low lagoons, estuaries, ponds, river and sea coasts. It feeds on small invertebrates that it captures between the mud and the sandy bottom. Paws adapted very long, they give him enough height to walk in shallow waters in search of their food.

• Esta hermosa y esbelta ave es muy abundante en nuestra zona, Mar del Plata, Argentina. La encontramos en lagunas bajas, esteros, charcas, costas de río y mar. Se alimenta de pequeños invertebrados que captura entre el fango y el fondo arenoso. Patas adaptadas muy largas, le dan la altura suficiente para caminar en aguas someras en busca de su alimento.
