Black-chinned Hummingbird Immature
We went up to camp today to help prep it for the season.
This is one of my favorite places. One of the best things about it is the caretakers maintain hummingbird feeders and they are very popular!
I took a few minutes to photograph the visitors and found this beautiful young hummingbird hanging out in a dense tree. He was very curious about the shutter sound on the camera and would tilt his head when I took photos.
I left him to rest and perhaps settle in for the evening. :)
*Edited: I misidentified this as a female previously. Females lack the dark spot on their chin. Breeding males have a large black and purple chin, hence the name.
Working closely with birds brings me a great deal of happiness.
On your adventures with birds make sure to give them their space, and do not pursue or harass them for a better look or picture, especially during their nesting season. These beautiful creatures deserve our respect as well as our love.

At the camp? No, yesterday was just to go up and clean up and set up after the winter. So much to do. We will be going up for about a week in July. :) I'll get a lot of new photographs then. :)
