LEOPARD FROGS AT 1 AM

I had a long night, and was up 'til one am talking with some close friends.

I still had chores to do afterwards, but once I finished them, the sound of the frogs down at the pond was too enticing for me to pass. While the winters here in the Ozarks are nothing compared to the ones back up in Wisconsin, there is still a winter and certain reptile and amphibian activity decreases during that time. With my new camera and a flashlight, I went down to the pond to welcome my friends back. Here are a few of my favorite shots.

As always, I'm @papa-pepper and here's the proof:

Yeah this brought back a memory and reminds me back in 82' when I was a young boy . My cousin and I went out frog gigging at his pond behind their house. And we would shine the flashlights in the frog's eyes, right before coming up behind them.

Anyway , cool photos @papa-pepper. Thanks for taking the time to shoot these. Especially considering the time at night.

Btw, I published a Post earlier today at my blog. It is centered around a Post you did last year. Hope you don't mine. Of course its not bad. Actually totally good so nothing to worry about, man lol

Thanks

Cool, I'll check it!

Takes me back to my bull frog days on our family goose farm. Those guys had the deepest, bellowing croak. They always made me jump as we walked along the banks and they bounded into the pond! Thanks for sharing your pics.

You photographed wonderful pictures Sir @papa-pepper

When I was little, 15 y back, we had a bunch of those frogs jumping around where I live but these days you can't see any of them...who knows what happened, mother nature is changing I guess :) ( and changes are goooood) !

Hopefully it is not a bad sign. I do know that since amphibians (like frogs) absorb a lot of things through their skin so a decrease in their population can be a bad sign of environmental contamination or an increase in pollution sometimes too.

Hopefully...then again a few years later we had an invasion of grasshoppers. You simply could not walk or drive a car on the roads to not step on a bunch of them...crazy, right! Last years we starting to see some new type of flyes around here, never seen before. This year snow is all around my place which is so freaking unusual because we are living in a Mediterranean part of the world. My point is, nature is changing and those are big changes, maybe we are initiators, who can know!?!? Oh yes, sparrows are missing also this year :(

@papa-pepper how do you feel at sound of amphibians, animals and nature in general? That the noise of leopard frog could wake you up at 1am, Nice shot sir

I like the noises. Better than honking horns, gunfire, and sirens all night. I used to get that in some places that I lived. This is tranquil and peaceful, even with the natural noise.

The sound of animals at night does give a special impression, especially the frog. I often hear the sound of animals in the place I live especially in the rainy season.

wow very nice post

very nice animal photography.

I'm really scared of that animal, I think I'm more afraid of it than cockroaches.

Really?

Well, if I... run.

A very beautiful frog @papa-pepper, but I was so scared of frogs, I couldn't imagine if he jumped at me and bit me. ha...ha,,

wow there are frogs, I am a little bit afraid of this amphibious animal for jumping on my feet and the cold, especially if there is very much rain this frog

wow...................... fantastic photo collection. Its great.

When I see a frog I remember my old Nokia ring two years ago.
Nice posting papa pepper

LOL - I got a good chuckle out of that. Got to love them novelty ring tones.

A very cool looking lizard indeed.

Good day sir @papa-pepper. I would like to know the name and model of the camera you used to take the pictures. It seems to be of a very good quality. I would really love to get myself one.

It is a CANON EOS REBEL T7i

Wow!. The CANON EOS REBEL T7i is a huge load. I just check out its specifications, it's really great. But it cost a lot. Although it worth the price. I guess I would consider getting less. It's really a good one for you.
Thanks for the reply sir.

Yeah, I never thought that I buy such an expensive camera.

Kudos!. Have considered getting the Canon 20MP IXUS 175 for a scratch. At least I should still be able to afford that from my earnings on steemit.

Hahaha the frog really know how to pose. Nice shot as always Papa.

all the time you share nice photo of nature and animal

the new camera seems to be doing a good job. It's not easy to get night shots that look good.

So I guess these are last year's frogs coming our o hibernation to lay a new batch of eggs. It seems really early in the year to doing that.

I hope you don't get a cold blast like the UK is getting. The poor frogs would not like that at all.

sigh I miss hearing frogs in the evening. You don't hear them at all in the city.

Awesome flashlight photos... your frog friend looked happy to see you!

They're so CUTE, did you hold one up in the air in the last pic? haha

can eat those?

some people like frogs legs as a delicacy or are they to small.

i really love the sound of frogs. It has a calming effect on me. I hope i can hear soon as well, as winter here in Ontario is far from over.
Enjoy it.

Great post! I think that the leopard frog is one of the coolest frogs.
I used to have a pond right next to our house that had leopard frogs in it!

You act like being up at 0100 is unusual for you...lol.

you are a great photographer!

Whattta unique style of photography:)

Looks so natural, a very unique photography :)

I've watched that Tv-Show Ozark. Haven't seen any frogs in it, just drug dealers xD

How did you get the pic of the frog so focused and you so blurry? Was that a tripod or did your wife take it? Very good picture.

Grandpa-Pepper must have miss trained you as a youth, He should have taught you that 1 am is sleep time, not crawl around cold, wet, ponds time.

Nice photos:)

I miss the "Spring Peepers" we had in the countryside of Michigan, maybe Maryland has them, but I haven't heard them here in thirty years or so that I've been here.
