This is a large woodpecker. Rather pre-historic looking I think.
He would tap on the wood a few times and then lick out grubs and ants.
These were taken using my Canon PowerShot SX60 HS

good morning dear @sallybeth23...
Dear.. You can not appreciate your pictures and the writing, the post you made, I loved it too much, I was very happy to see your post ... and the most beautiful picture in it is the bird.thanks for share..
Never saw a woodpecker thanks a lot for introducing it.
very beautiful woodpecker, amazing photography.
The woodpecker has a series of fantastic qualities, one of them: When it hits the wood with its beak, it does it between 15 and 16 times per second, that is, twice as fast as the shots of a machine gun. Extraordinary photography.
Gracias Salomon

you have talent in fototography, i want to be like you sally,,,,,,
Do you know that woodpeckers are able to peck 20 times per second. It produces between 10,000 and 12,000 pecks per day.
It looks good and nice shot, @sallybeth23
Very cool looking creature, and it does have a certain velociraptor-ish look to it eh?
LOL! I was going to correct you... "I think you mean PILEATED woodpecker" because it looks like the woodpeckers I know by that name. When I googled it, turns out you are right, but even google asks "Do you mean pileated woodpecker?" right above the matches for lineated!
Wonderful photos, and amazing how much they look like pileated ones lol!
