Gerlache Killer Whales ~ small type B Orca

Small type B orca are frequently sighted in the Gerlache Strait - that is also why they are known as Gerlache Killer Whales, simply due to the fact they are sighted so frequently in that body of water. An interesting fact about these animals is that everyone thought that their main food source was indeed just penguins. However, after much thought the scientific community came to the realization that if indeed penguins were their main source then why aren't there less penguins. Based on the size of the animals and their population size in that region, if they were only eating penguins then there wouldn't be many left.

Even though they have been seen frequently chasing and foraging on penguins we are know aware that fish also make up the main aspect of their diet, along with seals.

I got this awesome photo of a female Small Type B orca in November last year on a gorgeous day on the Antarctic Peninsula. You can clearly see her two toned colour, which forms her dorsal cape ~ simply beautiful animals

There are just too many species of animals in the water body. I don't even think they have given name to all of them. Well orcas is new to me. Hope to learn more

I hope I will be a whale someday haha now only a guppy

they are very smart predators, there is a population in California that eats the babies of another species of whale when I migrates by, they will eat a shark or a penguin or a whale or whatever they fancy.

i been out fishing and had killer whales swim right under the boat its kinda scary when in a small fishing boat.

I love dolphins!

quality and eye catchy photo. killer whales are fascinating animals in the sea. good work keep it up
