Good morning Steemians! How are you today?
You know, when I'm looking at my dog while she is playing or sleeping peacefully by my side I feel only tremendous love for her, I will never ever let anyone hurt her.
There is so much cruelty going on in the world, for instance: Yulin Dog Meat Festival in China where thousands of innocent dogs and cats are being slaughtered😔
Zoos also still have a place in our world, where many animals are held captive.
The first time in my life when I went to the zoo was here in Hangzhou,I was at a mature age.
I was sure very excited and impressed with it. I loved all the animals and it was amazing to see them for the first time,
but at the same time it made me very sad. As big as the zoo territory was, animals were not being treated properly, it was not their natural habitat.
I've seen a big orangutan climbing a tree in the zoo out in the open for sometime, until the zoo employee came with a big stick and asked orangutan to come down. The animal wanted to stay for a bit longer but the guy started hitting on the tree threatening and frightening orangutan.Big fearless animal seemed so powerless and scared, it came down quickly and was taken back to the cage.
Animals are extremely smart and sensitive creatures, I can't imagine how it feels for them to be placed in a cage and have people come and stare. It might sound funny but animals do have feelings and we have no right to hurt them. They should live a free life and be happy.
We should not let our kids go there, pretending that they can learn something and let them see how people treat animals. There are other, better ways to get kids acquainted with wild animals.
If I had a power I would set all the animals from zoos and aquariums free, shut down this kind of places and won't allow anyone to have exotic animals as pets. If you want to seem and feel "cool" you can surely not do that at innocent animals' expense.
We can not be selfish and keep rare, exotic, common, any animals for our entertainment purposes, we have passed that thing a long time ago, there should be no more slavery neither for men, nor for animals.
When I traveled to Thailand first time and had a chance to snorkel and see beautiful fish in their natural habitat it was one of the most amazing experiences I had, because I knew it was their home, they behaved just like they are supposed to, they weren't afraid - they were just curious.
In my opinion having and visiting zoos is the most obvious cruel thing we can do to the animals and yet it is so very accepted and still welcomed by the society. It is ridiculous!
I hope people who read this post will agree with me and there will be less cruelty, less people supporting zoos and aquariums and more people against it who will be willing to contribute to their shutting.
What do you guys think?Should it be stopped and forbidden? 🚫
I couldn't agree with you more but for endangered species it is sometimes neccesary to keep them in controlled environment to let them multiply and later on release into the wild like for example elk island and bisons
True,in these cases it's good for animals to stay with people who can take care of them😊
Thanks for sharing. Love it. Followed...
I don't know how old you are so I am going to mind my language. This is a very nice post and Thankyou for taking the time to write this. I used to have birds in cages and I used to hunt for pleasure. Long time ago in a war I was captured by terrorists. When I was eventually free, I understood what I was doing to these animals.
If we can't stand captivity then it amazes me that we hold animals captive and justify it...... like the ????? fish people at Disney or wherever the heck they are.
I'm sorry to hear that you were captured by terrorists and had this terrible experience...I agree I think most people still don't realize what it is and how cruel it is to captive wild animals in the small cages in the zoo. We don't know much about them, what they think and how they feel, but it's quite obvious that it's not normal to put them in this conditions for their whole life and then sell tickets to people to go and see at all this...
Nice shots. I am Venezuelan phtografer, follow me and looks at my pics

I might sound bad for saying this, but I belive zoos are here for a reason. Animals are well fed, have adequate space for living, and amuse people. Nobody is going to Africa to visit ryno. If zoos were to be closed, how many people would think those creatures on tv are cgi. I've seen enough of dumb people thinking earth is flat. If you feel bad, adopt a puppy and feel beter. I don't care but when I want to see some exotic animals I'm going to zoo, and not the nearby half the earth across rainforest.
I did adopt a puppy, but still don't feel that good about animals in lots of zoos who believe me are treated and fed not that good, being beaten up etc.Don't you think that a lion wants to lay the whole day in a small cage and feel good about it?or a rhino or a crocodile in a small pond without any chance to swim properly?I don't think so)))There is a discovery channel that helps people to see how animals look and what they really are on their natural habitat, once you start earning money you can buy a flight ticket, travel and see them yourself. No one should be a prisoner

I totally understand what you mean with this post. I take pleasure in seeing animals but it saddens me deeply that they are not in their natural habitat. I understand that some are orphans and can't be released as they wouldn't survive but that is only certain circumstance. The Dog and Cat meat festival disgusts me.
Yeah these places can't be really justified. The Festival is beyond disturbing😔
