Reputation is not related to Steem balances. It is based on the upvotes received, and it seems to follow a logarithmic path. Up to reputation 50 is fairly fast, and it slows through the 60s. Getting above 70 takes a long time. I have been here for over a year and am not there yet. Getting more upvotes from higher-reputation accounts helps speed the process, and more Steem Power behind those votes has a multiplying effect. In other words, the higher your own reputation and Steem Power, the more you can boost the reputation of others when you support their material.
