A while back we got to talking about pets and I promised @teutonium to show our dog on the blog, so here is my family's dog, Rokka. He is a 6-year-old Jämptlanninpystykorva (in Finnish), Jämpthund (in Swedish) and let's say in English a Swedish hunting dog.
Rokka is still a total puppy, super friendly and a curious little dog. He is a great hunting dog but a shitty watchdog, because he likes pretty much everyone! Rokka is used for tracking down moose and it's all he would ever want to do, but the hunting season is not that long. Sometimes it takes hours and hours to find him and get out of the forest, even with a GPS tracking collar on him. He will follow a moose for 12 hours straight, no matter the weather and the length of the journey, you basically have to coax him back home. The force is strong in this one.
Funny little thing about Rokka, he loves tea just as much everyone else in our family, we are all avid tea drinkers. The morning before I took these pictures I enjoyed my morning tea outside and gave the rest of it to Rokka.
And don't worry about him being outside in the winter, this dog breed originates from the cold Northern Sweden and is very well suited for our climate.
What a poser! He never sits still if someone is near him but when I started taking pictures he worked like a professional model, funny as hell. The last picture represents his true character a lot better xD

Aww, when I was a little girl we had a dog that had similar white dots above his eyes. Your dog reminded me of him. :') He was so smart and extremely beautiful black and white dog. He also had white on his chest, stomach, tip of the tail and paws. He was just perfect.

I know that they're cuties...but also fire-hearted and fearless hunters, just like Rokka. Sisu (bigger girl) has killed more than few raccoon dogs, foxes, badgers and other furry things. (ja tuo pienempi on nyt jo perkeleestä seuraava...ylöspäin)

Sounds like a great work dog! I can't imagine needing a GPS collar on my dog. haha We get more than 10 feet away, and she panics.

Rokkas beautiful. the family have small dogs, i may have posted one on a blog here last year, but a dog i once had, never found another like him. his name was tryfan, came from wales, rescued with several others from a young age. hes part collie, whippet, spaniel, thin black labrador, and terrier. he lived a long 15yrs.

Aww, he looks so cute, @eveuncovered! I was going to say that he kind of reminds me of the Norwegian breed Elghund, translated directly into Moose dog, but after reading I soon realized that these two breeds are probably related to each other.

The bigger of your two dogs looks like they know how to properly enjoy snow, whilst the Pug still has some reservations...
Hehe, yeah, that's exactly how it is as well! The pug always takes his time before trying out stuff, while the other one jumps headfirst into the snow.

He is so cuuute!!! OMG why a hunting dog looks so cute? And a second thing I have to remark is that the hunting dog name sounds Russian in Finnish and German in Swedish. Is just me or it is indeed how it sounds?

Hmm, I think it is because Finnish is part of Uralic language family, so some of it comes from Russia, and Swedish belongs to germanic languages. :)

Rokka is adorable! And the fact that he is a shitty watchdog because he loves evryone is even more adorable! I would love to have pets but I can't because my mother is very afraid of cats and dogs :( And she thinks that I won't be able to take good care of them alone.. All the poop training and stuff

The tea drinking started after one cold and rainy autumn day moose hunting, when my dad and the dog came back from the forest. The first thing after any of us comes home, we take a cup of tea. So dad took his tea and Rokka was next to him begging to get what ever the master was drinking too. Turns out he liked it a lot and now after every hunt he has his own cup of tea, with milk and tiny bit of sugar :)

12 hours!?!? That's crazy! I'd be so worried if my dog went wandering for that long! I have a black Labrador and she doesn't go more than 20 meters from me! Even on a long run she'll just run ahead, wait for me or sniff around then catch up, but never goes too far!
Rokka looks awesome though! Just the kind of breed my wife would love! Only dog people really get how awesome having a dog is!

They are brothers from the same litter, rescued from a garbage dump in northern Alberta. They have never spent a second apart in there whole life LOL.
