Although their sense of smell is very weak, their eyesight and hearing are strong. They are mostly active during the day. All are herbivorous mammals. Tree shoots, leaves, flowers, seeds and fruits are their main food. There are also insect, egg and scavenger eaters. Most live in groups led by an experienced male. There are also one-male groups consisting of a few females and offspring. Pregnancy cycles are different in species.
