The American association CFA Coupar called long-haired Scottish cat with folded ears (Scottish Fold); while the American Association ACFA known as Highland Fold - despite the fact that Coupar Angus is not in the Scottish Highlands, which entertains some Scottish growers!
Shorthair and longhair versions are distinguished by their folded ears - but this occurs only when the kittens reach the age of about three weeks - or angles and kittens straight ears, because they are folded over the result of the incomplete genes and spontaneous mutations occur. Therefore, the Scottish cat with folded ears - shorthair version - and co-evaporated cats - long-haired version - are still very rare.
Cats with "folded" ears have been known for hundreds of years, but all co-evaporated and the Scottish cat originated from Susie, white farm cat that gave birth in 1961 on a farm in Coupar Angus, in Scotland Tayside region, northwest of Dundee.

While co-evaporated shorthair cat with folded ears successfully crossbred with British and American Shorthair, there were long-haired cats crossing with other breeds, until it was revealed that Scottish vannant cat Straight has all the same genes for type breed - except the folded ears.
Therefore, the Scottish vannant cat can successfully mate with the Scottish cat with folded ears and Coupar cat, or results in short-and long-haired cats with folded ears. This avoids the risk of breeding "switch-to-switch", which can get down with hereditary osteodystrophy.
Nevertheless, co-evaporated cats and their short-haired relatives are still very rare. When in 1983 he founded the British Association of cat lovers, one of the first breed that has acquired the status of champions was co-evaporated cat with folded ears, and next year, and co-evaporated cat accepted as a breed of competition.

Growers are now in the UK are united in the Association of Scottish breed. In the US, it is co-evaporated champion breed, while in the UK won many titles. Although itself (so far) can not receive title, Scottish vannant cat can be displayed at exhibitions in the class of the new breed.
