A fresh dragonfly crawled out of this. They live under water as larvae/nymphs and hunt; at some point, they crawl out and complete the metamorphosis into a dragonfly. The skin they leave behind which you photographed is called "exuvia" by biologists. I just call it "skin" 8-).
