WE JUST HATCHED OUR FIRST BABY QUAIL EVER!!!

in #animals6 years ago

Hopefully more to come soon!

We've tried incubating eggs a number of times, but thus far we had never actually succeeded. Recently I've handed the job over to Mama-Pepper and our older Little-Pepper girls, since Mama-Pepper is a better researcher and more of a data person than I am. Sure enough, it seems to have paid off. Late, late last night one of the eggs began to hatch. Thankfully, there are more eggs that should be opening soon.

We actually traded some rabbits to @armadillocreek (who we met on steemit some time back) for the quail that we have, and we are just now getting in to the next generation. On the bright side, we've still got some of the quail and this next generation is going to be sooo cute. Once we can actually open the incubator we should be able to get some better photos. For now, here's a sneak peek! Enjoy.

Until next time…

I used to raise quail. They are a lot of fun. Seeing those tiny babies hatch was always thrilling.

We are finally feeling that thrill!

Name it Uno

I was thinking "Timothy," but Uno is a pretty good option too!

Okay...First Timothy. Or... I Timothy

Congrats!...:)...

Way cool! I've thought about raising them as well.

First, though, need to upgrade the habitats of all the animals we already have.

We do have baby chicks, though, and hopefully more on the way! ;-)

What breed of quail are you raising?

I know Coturnix are more popular, as they mature much faster and thus offer a better ROI, but I'm thinking more of native bobwhites, so that over time, I can start releasing the extras, and repopulate our area for the good of our local environment.

We have Coturnix, and good idea 'bout the existing animals prior to any additions.

Congratulations! Watching quail around the neighborhood is one of my favorite things. We had one on our balcony yesterday so I stopped what I was doing and just watched/listened to it.
Thanks for sharing.

Wow! Very cool!

I love hatching new little babies. Ive only done baby chickens and I am so proud when they hatch and are healthy. Congrats on your new little feather babies.
