Stevie's story, the Cliff notes;
I first saw Stevie back in the heat of the summer, not far from the remote area where I found Charlie's crate.
Where CB problem was confinement and starvation,
Stevie's was abuse and infestation; what I initially took to be a tag hanging from her neck was actually a huge dog tick, bloated on her blood to the point of bursting, and there were many others feasting on her as well.
I have never had much of a problem gaining the trust of strays, but Stevie gave me a run for my money, and I courted her for weeks; just when I would get close to closing the deal, something would spook her.
I'm pretty sure that someone else was trying to catch her ad well, someone who wasn't as patient and probably tried to grab her, and back to square one we would go.
There is a Finnish proverb "the humble hunter gets the bird", which means a hunter of grouse should approach a roosting bird on his knees, so I figured what the heck, and one morning laid own on the side of the road and decided to wait her out
