I come from a family that has been in Horse Racing for our 3rd generation. My Grandpa started raising horse's when he was 15 years old on a little farm in Lexington, Kentucky. Even though he's never raced any of his, He would raise and train them for others to buy. A few of them he raised were sold at Keeneland yearling sales and the new owners bought and ran them in races that broke there maidens first time out. Which made my Grandpa a big name back then in the early 1960's.
My dad is a farrier (horseshoer) that shoes horses and has built his own business for over 30 years and I have a uncle that is a jockey for the same amount of years. But now there both retired.
Now its my turn to keep the family name in horse racing. I Started out walking horses early in the mornings as a Hot Walker. I'd hold horses for there bath and walk them for a half hour each horse around the shedrow. I walked a few of winner's for a few different trainersThen as time went on I started taking care of a few horses by working my way up to being a groom. I was a job, But my love for horses kept me doing what I done. I'd tack the horse up and saddle em for our exercise rider to take em around the track for a jog or gallop. then when they come back my hot walker would walk them to cool em down. Gotta cool horses down after there time around the track to keep there muscles from tieing up and keep them fit. Then I'd rub them down and always had to wrap there legs. There legs get heat in them that you have to put mud on to try and keep them cool. There legs a very fragile and easy to break. It's amazing the weight of a horse on so skinny legs.
I come from one of the most legendary tracks in America named Churchill Downs in Louisville, Kentucky. Yes, the home of the Kentucky Derby. Its where I grew up and still live. I travel alot of other racetracks up and down the east coast from Gulfstream Park in Miami, Florida during the winter. And upstate New York at Saratoga Race Course.I think I like Saratoga the best cause all the bigger named horse's, Trainer's, and Jockey's all go there. Saratoga is the first race track in the United States that was built in the 1890's. you can see the backside barn area looks same as back in them early days.I hope one day with my love for horses that I'll have my own stable.
