Here is my own happy snap some time earlier when he was 111 years old. He still looks good for his age, no wonder when you don't have a worry in the world.
CrocWorld is clean and tidy, a wonderful place to visit, different species of crocodiles to learn about. Retiles, snakes and birds to view at a safe distance (stories for another day)
Facts about crocodiles to follow and then some more about crocodiles in the wild
Over the ages these animals have always intrigued many, known as reptiles now but apparently their prehistoric past was that of possibly birds. Imagination could run wild thinking of a bird swooping down on you with teeth such as this.
Good warnings about swimming in certain areas around our country are there for good reason, crocodiles still take the lives of humans. So when ever you visit an area you know it is good to heed warnings by the local folk.
Our visit to St Lucia where tragic events of lives being lost, do a search on your browser "Crocodile deaths in South Africa" read the news about how often this does happen.
Take a look at the following photo's of crocodiles in the wild and consider your chances in the water with one of them, St Lucia Estuary has many....
Hey hey hey inviting smile, come swim!
I estimated this guy to be about 2.5 meters long, they are healthy, fit and fast in the water, you really don't stand a chance.
African Proverb: Swim across the river before being rude to the crocodile.

amazing.
Great information my friend. I have just be lectured about crocodile from your post. I don't really know anything about this creature I will really love to see one for myself. Thanks for sharing.
We need to teach people who visit areas around the Kruger National Park/Limpopo Region and St Lucia/Isimangaliso District that the wild crocodiles are in the rivers and will take humans @giftedwords
When we have heavy rains they have been known to escape crocodile farms as well.
thanks for sharing this information.
If I lived in SA, that might be an issue. Fishermen are always looking for new holes, preferably ones without crocs.
Our largest concern in San Diego would be the Great White shark. I know you South Africans have them too.
Attacks are very rare, but we have lost a few surfers over the years. I've actually fished for shark (not Great White) so I won't go more than waist deep. It's not good to tempt fate.
Funny how we fear the larger things, no one ever considers smaller invaders @inalittlewhile always have had respect for the oceans, jelly fish, blue bottles the whole nine yards.
Haha. We had to take out a Widow that was nesting on our patio a couple days back. You're pretty safe in the surf, though I know what you mean. We rarely get the man-o-war, but they did come up with the last el nino. I saw a couple whole specimen off the kelp beds and they were huge! Over 8 feet in length. They would die and break up into bits that would still sting you in the surf. I've been nailed by stingrays 3 times. No fun, but it does help one appreciate nature.

very amazing. I am very comforted with your post. thank you for sharing
That old guy has plenty of wrinkles though. LOL! Thanks for all those facts about those scary animals! We have the Alligator Farm a few miles away - Similar to your CrocWorld I guess. There are crocodiles and alligators from all over the world there. You can even zip-line over them. Ugh!
Henry is amazing and quite the talk of town as to the grand age he has obtained, would not even walk over the suspension bridge at our local crocodile farm, definitely would not zip line across their enclosures @dmcamera
WOW, is amazing
:O! that's a huge croc!!! and also old. Interesting fact about them having the mouth open to cool down.
Amazing pictures and post :)
They are very interesting @cobmaximus

I really like your posts, greeting
Thanks for the visit @luisananava have a wonderful day.
You're welcome, equally for you :D
it is crazy to me that these beautiful creatures can live so long! Excellent photos!
They are beautiful, clever pretty good at doing basically what they want, evolution taught them well @papacrusher
Lot's of great information about crocs. I did see lots of gators in Florida but no crocs.
If in the wrong place at the wrong time gator will give you a pretty good tumble @rwedegis
Don't worry there'll be no dancing with gators for me!
I thought you took pictures in the wild!!! Hahaha! 😊 Glad you safe!
We also have crocodile farm in the Philippines. And we even hosted the largest crocodile ever caught, named Lolong. But he already died.
Anyway, it is hard for me to believe that crocs came from birds!!! Hahaha! It must have been an old folklore! 😂 I have read this very interesting topic about crocodile jaws that you might be interested in, too.

Thank you so much for sharing. 😊
The last 2 pictures are in the wild @gingbabida lives are still taken in our rivers by crocodiles, we also have places to teach people about crocodiles.
Thanks for the link, they move their young in their mouths to carry them to safety, they are amazing!
amazing
The crocodile tears legend caught me laughing! Haha great information about crocodiles. Thanks for sharing with us @joanstewart! :)
Glad you enjoyed it @michelleloh
This was a great read. 117...wow! You have captured some lovely pics.
I like the proverb at the end.
Around here is snakes you need to keep your eyes open for when swimming in the rivers or ponds. That is enough!
Snakes would put me off enough to keep me out of the water if they are poisonous @borrowedearth
Wow, that's impressive... I can't even imagine a croc living to be 117 years old, but I suppose a lot of creatures have longer lifespans when they enjoy protection and the comforts of life. Like feral cats only live to 6-7 years most of the time, but a comfy pampered housecat often lives to 20.
=^..^=
Yes with his harem he is totally content, I should imagine there are many making grand old ages, we just have no clue where in the wild they are @curatorcat
