There’s no way a silly 4-cell manga can become an anime. Correction: There’s no way a meme can become an anime.
- The Synopsys
Two high school girls, the short and exceptionally quick to anger Popuko, and the tall and much more calm Pipimi, do insane things and swear like sailors in this absurdist comedy filled with references and meta humor.

I usually start off with how its story it is, whether it is well written story or otherwise. This show is a pure randomness! You wouldn’t expect there will be Skyrim parody in the middle of the show. Furthermore, the parody level of this show is quite high too like Kimi No Na Wa (Your Name), My Neighbor Totoro, Pokemon and many more!
- ^ This is how if Michael Bay directed Kimi no na wa (Your Name)
Hey, the way they want to prevent the copyright strike is also a form of a joke too!
The combination of this two character is epic! That's why they called as Pop Team Epic.
I’m not a follower of Pop Team Epic so I may not know whether the first intro about a guy with 3 idols (Hoshiiro Girldrop) is the joke from the web comic or maybe it just to trolling over the normies. Maybe it’s a normies prevention?
The visual is quite interesting. From the way I see, maybe they spend the animation budget to the Hoshiiro Girldrop rather than the main story itself. Doesn’t mean it is bad but I love how simple it is.
- ^ Simple, used flat colour.
- ^ And all the animation budget goes to here.
Anyway, I laughed so hard on the first episode. I hope they keep up the momentum and it’s a great start for the series too. It’s an anime about trolling and meme, what should you expect? Sit back, relax and enjoy every bit of it.
Anyway remember when there is new season coming, the 3-episode rule must be applied! Thank you for coming and see you on the next post!
I just watched the anime and I thought I was watching the wrong one at the first 1 min hahah
Yeah me too! Especially when that guy looks almost the same like Itsuki Hashima from Imosae
