I was talking with a buddy about anime the other night , and were going over our favourite shows with the best English voice acting.
So I thought I would share!
#1 Samurai Champloo
Samurai Champloo-strangers are brought together on a quest to find the samurai who smells like sunflowers...Enter Fuu, Jin, and Mugen. While working at restaurant Fuu, meets Mugen and Jin -both incredibly skilled and talented swordsman who are hell bent on fighting each other. Fuu Ends up saving them both , and holds them to a promise that they will help her find the samurai she was searching for.
From Mugen's fighting Style to the soundtrack, the beat boxers and more, I love how they incorporated hip hop elements into this series! The English voice acting performance is strong as is the story, action and the characters who you will love after the very first episode. This is definitely a must watch!
#2 Cowboy Bebop
The only reason why Samurai Champloo was top of my list in my humbleopinion, was due to the well integrated Hip Hop influence for this series. My second place pick but only by a razors edge is Cowboy Bebop. Samurai Champloo and Cowboy Bebop are both directed by Shinichiro Watanabe, and both are dripping with style. Intergalactic Bounty hunters Spike, Jet, Faye and Ed try their best to survive living with each other while trying to capture bad guys for rewards.
It doesn't always go the way the bounty hunters would want it...and sometimes they end up causing more of a mess than necessary, but what is a bounty hunter supposed to do? Cowboy Bebop's stories and characters are enthralling and pique your interest. Every episode is a great episode with a fantastic musical score to compliment the show. If you haven't watched this... you can check it out for free on the Funimation website.
3- Ranma 1/2
A Father and son cursed to change into something else when splashed with cold water, add martial arts, and a crazy cast of characters plus stellar english dub of this series, makes this a classic, not to be missed. Oh, and it is pretty damn funny too. You can't go wrong in watching Ranma 1/2 tv series. I totally prefer the english dub for this show, as I feel the voice actors nailed each and every character to have a line in the show. Now the alter seasons switch up the voice actors /characters, but basically up until season 4 and some of 5, was fantastic.
4- Afro Samurai
An awesome blend of action, plot , a mysterious world, with even more intriguing and perverse characters...this series makes no apologies for some of the graphic fight scenes. With some star voice acting talent from Samuel L.Jackson(Afro Samurai) and Ron Pearlman this samurai story of revenge almost has a bit of a flavoring of an old western movie. Afro wants revenge for his father's death, who was killed by his former best friend who now wears the # 1 head band.
Since Afro Samurai now has the # 2 headband, only he has the right to challenge him...but other sinister forces want the headband for themselves. Afro might as well have a target sign on his back as the journey for revenge becomes even more bloodied. Every twist and turn is enjoyable, especially with the hip hop elements and slight nods to the culture(RZA did the outstanding sound track for the series). Afro Samurai deserves your attention. If you want a real treat...watch this bad boy with at least 5.1 channel surround sound. It is mind blowing how much detail they put into the audio tracks for this series.
You can watch the uncut directors cut of Afro Samurai below.
5- My Hero academia
this is a newer series with with spot on voice acting for every character introduced. I usually play anime with a Japanese dubbing with English Subtitles but this anime(along with the rest of the shows on this page) don't require me to.
The lead character "Izuku Midoriya" doesn't have any super powers. But he wants to be a hero. One day a selfless act catches the eye of the worlds greatest hero "All Might". All Might decides to share his power to Midoriya and train him on how to use it. From the training his newfound powers to being accepted into a school for heroes, villains and crazy classmates who all have a different quirk(abilities /super powers), this well thought out show delivers on action, friendship, and on the laughs. Thankfully every episode from season 1 and 2 are pretty much free of fillers...so indulge in the series if you haven't yet! The third season will be released within a couple months, so it would be a good time to jump into the show!
Thanks you for reading and I hope you enjoyed my list !
Till next time
Stay Frosty.
