[Manga] Detective Conan

in #anime7 years ago

Shinichi Kudo is a high-school student who, by using observation and deduction, is good at solving mysteries. While investigating one, he is caught by the criminals that he was watching and forced to take an experimental drug. Leaving him for dead, the criminals disappear. Instead of killing him, however, the drug turns Shinichi into a little kid.

About

Detective Conan is a Japanese manga series created and illustrated by Gosho Aoyama. It first started on January 1994 and is still ongoing. It's anime adaptation first premiered on January 1996 and is produced by Yomiuri Telecasting Corporation and TMS Entertainment. With over 886 episodes, it's currently sitting at the 15th spot for longest anime series to date.

Thoughts

Is the main plot even moving forward at all? Seriously tell me. The initial premise of Detective Conan was a genius high-school student turned into a grade-school kid by a mysterious organization. In order to protect his loved ones, he assumed the identity of a small child. Alongside, his love interest Ran and Ran's father Kogurou, a detective. He solves every case along their way as he slowly uncovers the truth behind the mysterious organization and eventually get his body back to its original form.

With over 1000+chapters and 890+ anime episodes, one can't help but ask 'What's taking this so long?' Well Detective Conan is what we could call an episodic show, the majority of the episodes have no relation to the main plot whatsoever and is there purely to provide entertainment and a sense of mission to catch the bad guy every episode using 'deduction'. At some point everything becomes too repetitive that many think that Gosho already ran out of ideas and are just recycling previous episodes. The real gem in this show however is its main plot, the one focusing on the mysterious organization. This is usually thrown off every 100th chapter with only 3-7chapters in it. This is the main reason why Detective Conan seems to be not advancing forward at all.

As for the characters, they all have their distinct personality and charms. Some of the characters are idiotically fun to watch and others are just too cool and smart that it is almost too unfair. Even with a lot of characters introduced every episode Detective Conan still manages to make every character different from the others. I mean how hard do you think it is to draw new faces almost every week?

Overall, Detective Conan is one of those manga/anime to go to if you want to kill some time. It's fun and possibly even educational. While most of the episodes are murder related, romance is also thrown off once in a while giving you a chance to relax from all those killings. It has a good main plot but is episodic so you'll probably end up watching too many fillers.
