Anxious to preserve your digital anonymity?

Here Tails, the operating system used by Edward Snowden and journalists who work with him.

While the revelations about the excesses of the NSA are stacked, users care about increasing data privacy.
You should know that no tools will guarantee full protection.
Nevertheless, there are already a number of services or software that are accepted as favorable to the protection of your information.
For example, to search engines, there DuckDuckGo, a follower of zero-tracking , which does not retain any information about its users.

On 2 April, the organization Freedom of The Press spoke for the first time that operating system. We already knew that to communicate with journalists, Edward Snowden was using PGP encryption.
But it also had another equally important tool, which remained hitherto unknown: the operating system or Tails The Amnesic Incognito Live System.

Like many alternative OS, Tails is located in a DVD or USB drive.
The operating system can boot on any machine from its support. If encryption tools and anonymity protection already exist for most known systems, Tails takes some good practices by default.

Thus, the Internet traffic is automatically directed to Tor, a network that allows you to remain anonymous on the web, without you having to make any configuration.

The Amnesic Incognito Live System will also allow the user to use encryption tools for communications through email and instant messaging.
And finally, it has word processing tools and multimedia files, which is important for journalists.

Moreover, stored data are encrypted and the operating system leaves no trace on the machine on which it was launched.

In an article in The Freedom of Press, Laura Poitras, Glenn Greenwald and Barton Gellman, the three "nos Journalist", extolling the virtues of the operating system.
Example: Barton Gellman explained that Tails puts essential tools available protection on a single site.
Glenn Greenwald asserted that Tails was vital to its ability to securely cover the NSA case.

Then we must not forget that no tool will offer you a 100% protection, not even the operating system tailored for digital anonymity.

But who developed this operating system?

No one.

At least, its creators remain anonymous. Nevertheless, our site Wired colleagues were able to address creators Tails by email.

One reason for this anonymity is code protection against possible interference from the NSA. But the code is open source and can be analyzed.

Tails developers have started 5 years ago. They were already users of the Tor network.
The idea was to develop a toolbox that includes the essential tools needed to anonymity, privacy and protection, as well as make them available to the general public in this toolkit The project was originally called Amnesia and was based on an operating system called Incognito.

Then they renamed it all The Amnesic Incognito Live System.
Besides the computer version is not finished, a mobile version would also be developed by another group.

But Tails has its limits. It will certainly not replace Windows or OS X for all uses.

However, it may be more convenient for some operations.
