Guidance: How To Record A Stalker Without Aggravating Them (Part 1)

in #antifa6 years ago (edited)

People come from different creeds and different upbringings. While some grew up fighting, others grew up in peaceful environments. With that understanding, it isn't expected that all of us would have the nerves to record or shoot photos of a total stranger, let alone a potentially violent stalker, so I'd like to offer my guidance on how to candidly record a stalker. My first and favorite method, a dash cam.

Dash cams first became popular in Russia as insurance fraudists run quite rampant. Automotive survailance used to run for several hundreds of dollars back then but with the advancement of modern technology, dash cams can now be found for as little as $50 at Newegg.com. What I like most about the dash cam is that it is always running and doesn't require you to point and shoot at anyone to capture them as most dash cams do have wide angle lenses and are always running.

Most dash cams also have automatic loop recording which will automatically delete the oldest video footage on your MicroSD card to make room for new footage. One thing to be careful of with this is that these devices with date stamps usually have a tiny internal lithium battery where power is stored to keep the clock running. Once this battery goes bad, each and every time you restart your car, it will be January 1st, 2015, 12am.

Now lets imagine that you just started your morning and eighteen minutes into your drive, someone brake checks you and you get into an accident. The video file that captured this would be stamped January 1st, 2015, 12:20am. You turn off your car, you exchange information with the other party, you start your car, and you resume the remaining 25 minute trek to work. Unfortunately, because you did not manually turn off the dash cam, the video file containing footage of the accident was overwritten 15 minutes into the second half of your drive. I personally have had this happen to me with a dash cam about a year into ownership. Thankfully, the footage lost wasn't anything important.

Once the battery goes out, you've got two options to get around it. The first option is to take it apart and change it, which is NOT easy. You would have to know how to solder and you'd have to know what battery to buy because it's not an ordinary flat lithium cell. The other option would be to have the power plug for the dash cam hard wired to the "memory" wire of your car. This is a wire that's always on, can be found behind your radio, and is the reason why your radio will keep its presets when you turn your car off. Yes this will create a constant drain on your battery but no, it will not deplete a healthy battery for days. The best part of hard wiring your dash cam permanently on is that you'll also get to capture any prowlers while you're away from your car.

Other great features of the dash cam I owned was motion detection which will only record when things in the image are moving. It also used a MicroSD card which made it very easy to extract the file. The camera would also start up automatically and start recording once you power on your car, so very convenient and maintenance free usage. These dash cams can also be used at home as they mount using suction cups and are powered by a MicroUSB cable.

If anyone has any questions about the exact dash cam I used, please feel free to ask me in the comments. I didn't want to list any specific product because it would look like I was just plugging a product I was selling, which I am not.

Stick around and follow me to get notified of my next Guidance in recording with cell phones later this week. Thanks for reading and stay safe.
