That excitement wouldn't last much due to the effect of the Mazlow's Pyramid itself. Depending of the kind of apocalyptic scenario, (some of them include an extreme lack of resources), the mazlow pyramid of a person initially with the basic needs covered could be reseted when those needs aren't covered anymore. Also, in those apocalyptic stories the man remains the worst enemy of the mankind. There always will be people that mess with others and without laws or society restrictions nothing could stop those to intimidate with violence and terror.
